Call for papers

- The American Theatre and Drama Society is sponsoring two sessions at the Annual Conference of the American Literature Association, 24-27 May 2001, Cambridge, MA.

(1) "The Wooster Group's Dramatic Subversions" Possible topics for discussion are:

• deconstructions of the dramatic canon (O'Neill, Eliot, Wilder, Miller, Stein, Rodgers & Hammerstein,...)
• subversions of conventional dramaturgy, anti-mimeticism
• genre-crossings between drama, performance theatre, film, etc.

(2) "Metadrama" Possible topics for discussion:

• any theoretical and/or practical consideration of self-reflexivity, minimally inscribed within the dramaturgy (beyond acting, scenography, directing, etc.)
• fusions of critical and creative drama writing
• parodies/pastiches of authors, plays, genres, conventions, dramaturgies, etc...

One page proposals or full papers (20 minutes), accompanied by a brief bio, should reach the convener Johan Callens, ATDS's International Secretary,  by 15 December 2000 at the following address:
