The Economics Education and Research Consortium (EERC-Russia) has the opportunity to allocate two Swedish Professorship Awards to promising young CIS nationals who hold PhD degrees in economics from reputable Western universities and are interested in an academic position in Russia or Ukraine. Awards will be allocated on competitive grounds in early 2002 for a period of three years; the amount of the award may vary, but will typically fall within the range of US $20,000-25,000 per annum for the first three years of one's postgraduate career.

EERC welcomes applications from candidates with excellent backgrounds in any field of economics. The "Call for Proposals" and "Letter of Intent" form can be downloaded from http://www.eerc.ru/activ/Special_Initiatives/sp/sp_rfp.htm. PLEASE feel free to forward this information to anyone who is eligible and might be interested.

HOW TO APPLY

1. Send an official Letter of Intent in electronic  format to ulya@eerc.ru by December 7, 2001.
2. Submit a complete Application Package, in both hard copy and electronic formats (send message with attachments to ulya@eerc.ru) by February 15, 2002. The application package should contain the following documents:

• - One to three sample publications or working papers
• - Three confidential letters of recommendation (to be sealed and sent by surface mail to EERC)
• - Statement of purpose featuring candidates' intended contributions to teaching and research in the CIS region
• - Endorsement letter from the prospective host university
